I especially liked the low spool-shaped coffee tables in this reading area, for they would make great surfaces for squat teapots if tea parties were allowed in the library.
In its immensity and comprehensiveness, North York Central Library (1987) was a universe unto itself. Located in the mall next to Mel Lastman Square, I was blown away by the sheer size, complexity, and scope of this branch. In fact, I felt so overwhelmed by the task of adequately describing all 168,022 square feet of [...]

The penultimate Toronto Public Library I called on was one of its smallest: Swansea Memorial. This compact and attractive branch occupies one room on the upper floor of Swansea’s City Hall, where it has resided for fifty-one years. (Previously, it was located in Swansea Public School from 1919 to 1959). With only 1,127 square feet [...]

To enter Jane/Dundas Library from the parking lot is to encounter the branch as a visual whole — silver, light, and open. Look down and you can see groups of teens in their study nook below. Look to the right and the entire main level comes into view. Although Jane/Dundas isn’t a huge branch, such [...]

Finding a parking space on Bloor Street West near Royal York Road was challenging, but my luck changed for the better when I walked into Brentwood Library. When I found Perth/Dupont Library after some pleasantly aimless walking, I was struck by how architectually-integrated the branch seemed, as if it had been lovingly tucked into its storefront room by the surrounding community. About the size of Davenport Library, Perth/Dupont’s interior was off-white with olive trim and featured an exposed blue-purple heating duct that [...]

Confirming this impression, a historical outline posted inside described the evolution of the library and its formerly rural surroundings.
